Business Controller Supply & Trading Switzerland Hours: Fulltime Location: Baar, Switzerland THE POSITION The (Senior) Business Controller for Supply & Trading Switzerland serves as a strategic finance leader and trusted advisor for the Swiss gasoline, diesel, and heating oil businesses. This position is integral to enabling high-quality decision-making through accurate financial reporting, deep performance insight, and proactive business planning. As a mini-CFO for the Supply & Trading business unit, the role has significant visibility and influence across trading desks, commercial teams, and senior management. In addition to overseeing the full performance management cycle—ranging from month-end close and financial forecasting to business plan preparation—the controller will play a pivotal role in digital finance transformation, process automation, and driving data-driven decision-making. The individual will engage with stakeholders across functions and countries, contributing to VARO’s transition towards a low-carbon energy future while ensuring the integrity of financial governance and performance. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Act as the lead financial partner for the Swiss Supply & Trading business, advising senior commercial leadership on financial KPIs, profitability, and risk. Lead the monthly closing and performance reporting cycle in close cooperation with Accounting, Risk, and Trading. Develop and manage rolling forecasts, variance analyses, and business plans for gasoline, diesel, and heating oil products. Provide high-quality analysis and insights to support margin optimization, supply chain efficiency, and hedging strategies. Drive alignment between financial outcomes and strategic business goals across cross-functional teams. Coordinate with auditors, finance functions, and business controllers across Europe to ensure consistency and compliance with IFRS and internal standards. Drive the automation of financial reporting and forecasting processes, supporting the transition from Excel-heavy workflows to ERP-integrated dashboards (e.g., JDE, VISTA). Lead or support key transformation initiatives, particularly in the context of decarbonization and regulatory adaptation in the fuels market. Continuously optimize controlling and reporting frameworks to improve efficiency, accuracy, and transparency. Your Profile - Essential knowledge, skills & abilities Deep expertise in financial control, accounting, and financial strategy. Ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights. Analytical mindset with strong critical thinking skills. High IT affinity with experience in ERP systems (JDE/VISTA) and digital finance transformation. Strong interpersonal skills to engage with senior business leaders, auditors, and cross-functional teams. Ability to drive process improvements and financial innovation. Other Essential Requirements Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field 5+ years of experience in financial control, business analysis, or strategic finance, preferably in a trading, refining, or commodity environment Strong background in IFRS financial closing and reporting cycles. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., JDE, VISTA) and digital finance tools. Asset Economist Hours: Fulltime Location: Baar, Switzerland THE POSITION The Asset Economist (AE) plays a key role in maximizing the commercial value of Varo’s Cressier refinery, ensuring smooth implementation of monthly operating plans through optimization of crude and feedstock intakes using LP (linear programming) models. As the first-line contact point towards Cressier refinery on all operational day to day matters, the AE ensures implementation of short term economic steers and applies ad-hoc problem solving skills to provide efficient and creative solutions to operating challenges. Moreover, the AE interfaces continuously with supply, logistics and trading organizations to ensure alignment, providing weekly updates on the progress of monthly plan implementation. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Preparing the monthly operating plans Using refinery linear programming (LP) models, derive economically optimized crude batching to define refineries crude diet composition Prepare and analyse scenarios to ensure end to end value chain economic optimization Determine demand and timing of feedstock & intermediate imports / exports Monitor deviations between LP plan and actuals and challenging the refinery constraints Running the daily refinery business Ensure smooth daily operations & implementation of monthly refinery production plan Align Varo-internal stakeholders by preparing and leading regular update meetings on refinery status and economics Provide Import-/Export-economics for feedstocks and products Anticipate potential challenges and show creativity in solving problems. Identify and capitalize on optimization opportunities. Provide challenge and support to on-site planning and scheduling team.
