You propose, justify and lead complex projects for a site, machine center or process area to design, modify, upgrade, maintain, or troubleshoot of plant manufacturing equipment. You contribute to and may lead projects with multi-plant or regional impact, participate in projects with multi-region impact. Meet assigned project commitments, and negotiate major project timelines and deliverables Lead gathering of customer (internal or external) requirements and feedback. Oversee delivery of data, reports, and communication to project stakeholders You monitor and troubleshoot process issues, improve processes, procedures, equipment and controls to ensure cost, quality, production, safety and environmental aspects / goals of the machine centers are met. You develop, design and implement new equipment and control system upgrades required to improve process capability, quality, safety, efficiency and reduce operating costs and cycle times. You continually evaluate the existing processes, equipment functions and technologies in use to identify opportunities and drive improvements in your work area or outside of work. You identify impediments to process or machine efficiency and drive change in inefficient work processes impacting operations in area of accountability. You drive your team towards customer centric innovation. Become part of our mission to create a sustainable world and start as soon as possible at our location in Sierre as: Surface Treatment Engineer (f/m/d) Research & Development Responsibilities & Qualifications R&D wants to evaluate innovative ways and rethink the traditional strategy of molten treatment methods. The role is cross-regional, will cover multiple aspects and departments. The incumbent-s main tasks will be twofold: firstly, he/she needs to review existing methods and develop Novelis-born innovative ideas and secondly, needs to lead and mature projects up to a lab-scale demonstrator Your responsibilities: Technical referent for surface treatments (application, characterization, and analysis of treated surfaces) and chemical processes in the R&D laboratory Ensure compliance of delivered results with applicable standards, develop new methods according to standards evolution and customer requirements Perform surface treatment and surface analyses and report results Organize preventive maintenance of surface treatment and electrochemical equipment Define safety standards in collaboration with the EHS team Manage technical projects How to convince us: Bachelor or Master in Chemistry or Materials Science with ideally 3-5 years professional experience with surface treatment Technical expertise in surface treatment, electrochemistry and/or surface characterization is an advantage. Location Profile Novelis- Sierre is located in the Valais Switzerland employing around 550 people. It mainly focuses on production of aluminium sheet for the automotive market covering the entire process from casting to finishing. The plant also hosts a world-leading Research & Innovation Center specialized in the development of new automotive sheet alloys surface treatment and joining technologies. In Feburary 2022 together with research institutions and a local energy provider Novelis founded the Net Zero Lab Valais to develop carbon-neutral solutions for aluminium manufacturing. The lab focuses on identifying and implementing innovative solutions to neutralize the carbon footprint of Novelis- manufacturing operations and neighboring communities starting in Sierre. The Sierre plant supports its community through direct sponsorship of many annual events promoting education sports and culture.
