The doctoral programme in Digital Studies offers doctoral students from the CUSO universities (Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel, and the Graduate Institute of Geneva) a space for training, reflection and sharing on the challenges of cultures, societies and digital humanities. Resolutely interdisciplinary, it allows students from very different backgrounds to meet and compare their methodologies, from literary studies, history and art history to social sciences and geography, via linguistics, languages and philosophy. The programme aims to provide guidance for doctoral research that involves the use of computational tools or the study of digital cultures, the critical analysis of digital/digitalised sources, or the social and political ramifications of digitalisation. The doctoral programme in Digital Studies, born in 2017 and initially funded by swissuniversities (2017-2020), joined CUSO in January 2022. The programme in Digital Studies was envisaged as a complementary and flexible offer . It is therefore possible to register for a few events per year, without being obliged to participate in recurrent events. The different activities of the programme do not require any prerequisites and can be followed separately . Because of the training and reflection on digital tools offered, in collaboration with researchers trained in social and human sciences using digital technology and with engineers, this programme has a professionalizing dimension , well beyond the academic world. Postdoc Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, EPFL Workplace Lausanne , Lake Geneva region, Switzerland Category Physics | Innovation Position Senior Scientist / Postdoc Published 30 April 2025 EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs more than 6,500 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of more than 18,500 people, including over 14,000 students and 4,000 researchers from more than 120 different countries. Mission The EPFL Laboratory of Particle Accelerator Physics ( ( LPAP ) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our interdisciplinary team focused on developing a robust optics configuration and beam-beam collision scheme for the Future Circular Colliders ( FCC ) . As part of the CHART - funded project "General Accelerator Design at the FCC-ee: optics, tuning knobs and collective effects studies," the successful candidate will contribute to the development of a robust and optimized FCC-ee lattice design with an emphasis on beam-beam interactions and collective effects. The project involves refining optics configurations, implementing new tuning knobs, and developing correction schemes to enhance luminosity, beam lifetime, and dynamic aperture--critical figures of merit for collider optimization. Initial work will include analyzing current FCC-ee lattice options, identifying sensitivities to beam-beam forces and machine imperfections, and using this knowledge to design alternative optics configurations aimed at minimizing nonlinearities and improving beam stability under high-intensity conditions. A key aspect of the project is the development of flexible correction schemes and tuning knobs for real-time adjustment of lattice parameters during machine operation. Post-doc researcher in Clinical Neuroengineering Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, EPFL Workplace Lausanne , Lake Geneva region, Switzerland Category Life Sciences | Health Position Senior Scientist / Postdoc Published 17 April 2025 EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs more than 6,500 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of more than 18,500 people, including over 14,000 students and 4,000 researchers from more than 120 different countries. Mission The Laboratory of Clinical Neuroengineering, directed by Friedhelm Hummel https://www.epfl.ch/labs/hummel-lab') has an open position for a Post-Doc researcher on the topic of noninvasive deep brain stimulation to address aspects of freezing of gait in Parkinson ’s in a SNSF-funded international Lead Agency project. Project description The overarching goal of the project " Multimodal approach for the detection, prediction, and management of Freezing of Gait in Parkinson’s Disease (MAPP) "funded by SwissNational Science Foundation (SNSF) together with Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de S.Paulo (FAPESP) with the following PIs: Prof. Hummel (EPFL), Prof. Micera (EPFL), Prof. Shokur(University Hospital of Lausanne, CHUV) and Prof. Boari Coelho (Universidade Federal do ABC(UFABC)) is to design and test a closed-loop wearable system for neuromodulation to assist inmitigating the freezing in PD patients. Profile The specific part of the project seeks to develop a transformative, non-invasive deep brain stimulation approach, using tTIS, to target pathological patterns of neural activity in the basal ganglia of PD. FoG events have been associated with an abnormally strong low beta activity (12-15 Hz) in the subthalamic nucleus (STN). tTIS is a disruptive non-invasive brain stimulation approach that allows targeting deep brain regions that could previously not be stimulated selectively with conventional non-invasive approaches. We have pioneered tTIS for human applications to target the hippocampus (e.g., Beanto, Moon et al. 2024 Science Advances) and striatum (e.g., Wessel, Beanato et al. 2023 Nature Neuroscience 2024; Vassiliadis et al. 2024 Nature Human Behavior). tTIS is safe, and well tolerated (Vassiliadis et al. 2024 JNE) and has the potential to reduce neural oscillations in deep brain regions (Vassiliadis et al. 2024 Nature Human Behavior). Hence, tTIS appears as a particularly promising opportunity to target pathological neural activity in the basal ganglia (Hummel & Wessel 2024 NatureReviews Neurology) and ultimately prevent the occurrence of FoG. The personalized nature of these technologies can represent a significant advancement, tailoring interventions to individual patient needs and responses. To address these aspects, the ideal candidate should have: PhD (or equivalent degree) in neuroscience, medicine or psychology, computer science or engineering or MD degree Strong motivation Strong neuromodulation background, especially non-invasive brain stimulation and/or Strongneuroimaging background, especially in M/EEG Good programming skills Goodcommunication skills Previous research experience in human experimental translationalneuroscience is a plus.
