What you’ll do In this role you will be a senior leadership team member and business partner who plays a key role in achievement of our overall company goals. In this position you will lead the full medical organisation delivering the strategy, plan, capabilities and behaviours necessary to successfully implement our medical affairs agenda to drive scientific partnerships and leadership You will be translating the Global strategic medical long-term vision into a highly effective country strategy and plan that defines and delivers “value” at multiple levels. You will direct and support the function to ensure medical operational excellence (including launch excellence), evidence generation for our portfolio products and patient safety. Other responsibilities include: Translate the Global strategic long-term vision for AZ Medical Affairs Switzerland into a highly effective country strategy and plan Ensure operational implementation of the medical affairs country plans, analysing, anticipating and, where possible, shaping marketplace changes whilst identifying and maximising new growth opportunities Ensure evidence generation gaps are identified and proactively closed to support scientific advancement for patient benefits Ensure that strong external relationships are built and maintained with key external experts, scientific bodies and study groups, payors and patient organisation as appropriate Increase our scientific footprint and strategic partnerships in Switzerland in our core disease areas Ensure innovative patient centric solutions are developed and implemented to address identified unmet needs Build a high performing team Identify the roles and capabilities required for current and future success within the Medical Affairs team and drives the recruitment of high calibre individuals Ensure excellence in execution with a strong focus on proactively managing performance and driving results Inspire and lead the capability development for the Medical Affairs team and individuals Ensure that an innovative and cross-functional account planning and customer engagement strategy is implemented and monitored Ensures full compliance and adherence to company standards including ethical interactions and promotional standards Plans a key role as a member of the Switzerland Senior Leadership Team in ensuring the collective success/performance of the total AZ Switzerland business and people Essential for the role Qualified Doctor or similar degree Demonstrated success through extensive experience of Medical Affairs function within the pharmaceutical industry Strong knowledge and expertise in at least one of our core therapy areas (CVRM and Respiratory & Immunology) Extensive experience in relationship and stakeholder management Pre-launch, launch and product life cycle management experience Experience in building, engaging and driving performance through a team In-depth knowledge in the specialty and primary care market and patient journeys Demonstrated ability to lead and develop capability across cross-functional teams In depth understanding of account planning Strong leadership capability in line with our AZ values with excellent communication skills and an enterprise mindset Strategic thinking and execution Fluent in English & knowledge of at least one local language Desirable for the role Knowledge of the Swiss healthcare environment including regulatory and pricing/reimbursement processes is desirable Good knowledge of one or ideally multiple local languages Why AstraZeneca? As an EU & Canada Medical Affairs Leader in Zug, Switzerland , you’ll play a pivotal role in channelling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. AstraZeneca is seeking a Senior EUCAN Medical Affairs Leader with oncology and medical affairs expertise to join our EUCAN Medical Affairs team. This role reports directly to the EUCAN Head of Medical Affairs. AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients live better, longer lives by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the ultimate goal of eliminating cancer as a cause of death. AZ’s broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused across a wide range of therapy areas; Breast, Lung, Haematology, GI, and GU/GYN. As well as other tumour types, these are being targeted through innovative key platforms - immunotherapy, genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates; underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies. The Senior EUCAN Medical Affairs Leader, Breast is a vital strategic and synergistic link between countries and the regional strategy teams, whom ensures timely, high-quality input into global and regional medical, cross functional and lifecycle plans. This role develops and executes EUCAN regional strategy and tactical plans, as well as supports the EUCAN country strategy and implementation. An important element of the role is to develop strategic and long-term partnerships with relevant external stakeholders and decision makers through the development of AZ’s scientific leadership with advocacy, scientific organizations, thought leaders and HTA/payers organisations. Together, the EUCAN medical leadership team plays a critical role to develop best in class medical affairs capabilities aligned with the medical needs of our rapidly expanding portfolio – together we are shaping the future of medical affairs within the pharmaceutical industry. This role will require broad internal cross-functional collaboration and matrix leadership, with multiple medical, development, commercial and access teams; as well as core Oncology Business Unit EUCAN country teams, and broadly across EU 27. This role will be responsible for activities such as insights generation and advisory boards; alignment of the publication plans, and medical evidence generation plans to overall tumour level strategy; developing synergistic strategy to global, regional and local externally sponsored research and collaborations; enhancing educational and patient related initiatives and other medical affairs activities in collaboration with country and cross functional EUCAN teams. This role will contribute to the broader AstraZeneca portfolio strategy, and shape our value delivery to benefit healthcare professionals, healthcare systems, and patients.
